Product SpecificationsWith its ample dimensions and burly construction, this commercial 5-quart KitchenAid mixer is prepared to be a culinary beast of burden. Smartly engineered so that the beater moves clockwise while the shaft moves counterclockwise, the beater reaches every part of the bowl without requiring it to rotate. Five mixing speeds plus a stir setting means the appliance can do everything from folding cranberries into biscotti to whipping up a fluffy meringue. The all-metal construction includes a heavy-duty motor to handle stiff batters and a hardwearing transmission that ensures continuous power. The mixer’s seamless, stainless-steel, 5-quart bowl stands flat on its indented base and features sealed handle and bracket connections that meet NSF standards. A professional-style bowl lift raises it easily and securely into position, even if it’s brimming with weighty dough. The mixer comes with a burnished flat beater, a burnished dough hook, and a commercial wire whip. The flat beater is perfect for mixing cake batters, mashing potatoes, and stirring quick breads. The dough hook comes in handy for breads and coffee cakes, and the wire whip is your tool for icings and whipped cream.
Four sealed rubber feet hold the mixer stably in place, and a 3-wire, 6-foot power cord meets commercial requirements. As a safety mechanism, the overload reset button pops out if the mixer is overloaded, and the motor shuts off. If you only bake occasionally, a less heavy-duty unit will do the job. But if you work or recreate in the kitchen, this hard-working mixer can keep the pace. --Emily Bedard
KitchenAid K5SSWH Commercial 5-Quart Mixer, White Reviews By CustomersIn my pastry arts program at the French Culinary Institute (which I would fully recommend to serious bakers), we have used two different stand mixers: this one, and the Hobart N-50. There are definitely perks to each, and I would recommend the KitchenAid for its 5 speeds (as opposed to the Hobart's 3), it doesn't need to be reset as often as the Hobart, and it's almost impossible to strip the gears or kill the motor with rough use. On the Hobart, you have to turn off the motor to change the speed, with the KitchenAid, you don't. However, the top speed on the KitchenAid is considerably slower than the top speed on the Hobart (think bad if you need a meringue for a test or cookies for your kids' bake sales in a hurry). For the serious home baker, I would probably recommend this mixer for ease of use and ability.
Heavy Duty Series vs. Professional 5 Series - -
Just a note to the previous poster: There are 2 series for the 5 quart capacity bowl-lift mixer. Sounds like you have one from the Heavy Duty Series which is 325 watts. The Professional 5 Series is 350 watts.

Must Have For Your Kitchen - F. McGill - Bay City, MI
I just wanted to chime in as I read a lot of the posted reviews before I bought this mixer from Amazon. First, my mixer showed up in just a few days. Great service as always from Amazon. As for the mixer - after mixing up one batch of cookies, I was already asking myself how I got by without one of these things. So far I'ved used the mixer for cookies, cakes, and pizza dough and it has worked beautifully. My wife was skeptical about me ordering this, asking me why we needed another "toy" in the kitchen? Her doubts quickly disappeared the first time she used it to mix up peanut butter bars. She loves the mixer too! If you cook/bake at all, a mixer such as this is as essential as having an oven/stove.
