  • Universal Plus Kitchen Machine (w/ out blender) Reviews By Customers
  • This mixer is powerful. You have the main unit where you attach your bowl, and a secondary unit where you can attach a blender.

There are many, many accessories you can buy for this unit. Be sure if you buy accessories you buy for the correct unit as accessories for this model are NOT interchangeable with Bosch's previous all-in-one machine! I've already had to return one attachment because I made this mistake. Look for accessories that have a model number starting with MUZ6!

This machine tears up just about any food you throw at it. When you turn it on you can get the feel for the full 800 watts of power it is capable of by it's roaring sound. You may need to run to your circuit breakers to find a suitable plug for the unit, since 800watts is just about the limit most circuit breakers can take. It's doubtful you can run this unit along with another kitchen appliance at the same time in the same receptacle.

Cleanup is not fun, not fun at all. I did not like the design of the bowl in this aspect. There are plenty of crooks and crevices that dough gets in that take some scrubbing to get out. Also, the top/center of the bowl serves as the "gears" for some of your accessories, but when not using them, they catch quite a bit of food in them, and it is difficult to clean.

While on the subject of the bowl, other than cleanup, it's an awesome design. There is a removable splash guard around the rim that allows you to add flour to a recipe, while the unit is running without making a mess. You also have another lid that fits into the splash guard for the bowl to cover it should you need to rise dough.

My unit came with the blender, so I'll review it here as well. The blender is wonderful too. I can actually grind my own wheat in it for pancakes and cleanup is a snap. Also the design of the blades is ingenious as one blade is actually pointed downward toward the base to clear shop where most blenders don't touch. One problem I did have was with the blades and how they attach to the blender. They are removable, but when you put them back you need to really make sure that you tighten it well. If they are not tight enough, your blended battery goo will fall down into the crevices of the machine, which could possibly damage it. There are unfortunately small holes where this could easily occur. Unfortunately when you tighten the blades down, it's really difficult to get them untightened (Believe me, I'm a man, it's hard!). I end up having to get a pair of pliers and using them backwards (grip handles on the device) to get the blades out.

Another issue with the blender that has to potential to drive me nuts is the small removable top (not the main blender top, but the small plastic piece you can remove to stuff food down). There is a hole in it! Not large, probably about 1/4 inch, but it's still large enough that if you blend just right your stuff will come out of the blender. There is absolutely nothing you can do about this, shy of sticking your finger, a napkin or paper towel down it while blending. Bosch wanted this to act more like a drip funnel, but I just don't get the point of having a hole here.

Hands down, this is a great unit, and Bosch has a known reputation of creating kitchen units that last for years, even decades! I would definitely recommend this one to anyone serious about cooking in their home!

mixes really great, but cleanup is not fun - T. Funk - Moose Jaw, Sask,Canada
I had a kitchen aid before I bought the bosch. While it mixes dough really good, cleaning up is really not fun. With the kitchen aid, I had only the stainless steel bowl, and 1 attachment to clean. However, with the bosch, I have to wash the plastic splash shield, all those little paddle, and the bowl, the gear under the bowl...

  • best money I've ever spent - zinnia - UT
Last year I bought the new Bosch mixer. I've never had a stand mixer, but I read the reviews and talked to a few people who are serious cooks/bakers. So I spent the extra money and got the Bosch instead of some less expensive brands. I'm so glad I did!
I have used the mixer mostly for whole wheat bread. The motor is so powerful and efficient that it doesn't even slow down kneading the stiff dough. I can easily mix fresh ground flour (using up to 15 cups!), and get 4 huge loaves of bread (or 5 smaller loaves). I've baked bread every week since I bought the mixer. Haven't bought any at the store.
I've also used the mixer for huge batches of cookies, brownies & mashed potatoes. No sweat. I use the blender too, but not as often as the mixer.
I love it, my family loves it, and my only regret is that I've gone so long w/o one.

  • AWESOME, and what cleanup? - Unnamed -
Well, I must be missing something the other reviewers aren't. I used this machine to make my huge batch of cookie dough. As usual, I made a monumental mess. NOT the machine's fault, I make a mess of everything in the kitchen. But this machine handled the mixing so easily I couldn't believe it. My Heavy Duty Kitchen Aid was a huge hassle, with the dough always climing up and getting everywhere, plus it was hard to add ingredients. At least with the Bosch, all I had to wipe up were dry spills caused by me, not dough flung everywhere. For those of you who complained about food getting in the gears, try standing on you head to clean the gears on the underside of the Kitchen Aid. Or better yet, try throwing it in the dishwasher. Geez!! Now that machine was hard to clean! To be honest, most of the mess from the Bosch was caused by me turning it on with only dry ingredients and no top on the unit. I thought it would just slowly stir on low speed, like the Kitchen Aid, but it doesn't seem to do slow, and dry stuff flew everywhere. Beware. Always use the top. 8-)

But after all was done, I just put everything in the dishwasher, and it was all clean. What am I missing? Everything was perfect. The Kitchen Aid goes to the storeroom. I'm in love. I had bought cookie paddles, but couldn't find them when it was time to make cookies. So I used the dough hook, and it worked perfectly. That thing is massive, and gets everything mixed perfectly.

I consider myself an excellent critic of kitchen equipment, because in the kitchen I am sloppy, lazy and impatient (hey-know thyself). If something works well for me, it is because it does the job quickly, easily and well. The open top is a blessing in itself. Since I never measure anything, and dump it in right from the packaging, the open top is much less likely to cause spills than trying to fit the package opening into the Kitchen Aid.

  • Bosch Universal Plus with Blender Model: MUM6N10UC Reviews By Customers
  • I have now had my Bosch for a couple of months. The model I have is a slightly more powerful (1000W) European version with the metal bowl, but otherwise it is the same. It replaces a much-loved Kitchen Aid mixer which I had in the States. I must say that as much as I loved my Kitchen Aid, this Bosch model outperforms it as well as many other mixers. My first impression of the machine upon using it to make bread was that it was way too easy. After using industry-grade Hobart machines, Kitchen Aid, Electrolux, and Kenwood for many years in work and home, I was amazed at how well and effortlessly the Bosch kneaded the dough. I have not one time need to scrape down the sides and there is no spillage.

The capacity is truly enough to make 4 loaves of bread at a time. The lid performs wonderfully, leaving no place for ingredients to escape. Further, the removable part of the lid allows the most space for adding ingredients of all home machines which I have tried. As comparisons: I use an Electrolux Assistant (same capacity bowl)at work every week to make 8 loaves of bread and pizza dough and am frustrated with every batch as the ingredients leap over the backside of the bowl nearly every time no matter how diligently I guard it. The splash guard on my Kitchen Aid I also found to be undersized for adding dry ingredients and I spilled them every time, in the end removing the guard completely. The kneading mechanism on the Bosch looks strange as it has a stationary dough blade as well as a dough hook, but it functions beautifully.

The double whisk works well to mix cake batters. The beaters fit snug in the bowl without hitting the sides. I have experienced that only minimal scraping is sometimes required for cake batters. While this has been occasional and quite optional (perfectionist), it does require that the splash-guard be removed first. I cannot yet give an opinion on its whisk ability regarding cream or eggwhites as I have not had occasion to test that yet. The beaters snap on and off of the head (much like traditional beaters) for easier cleaning and storage.

The plastic blender is of solid and sturdy material and the lid locks onto the blender bowl in addition to having a rubber seal. The blender is driven by a second rotor hidden under a removable cover on the tower part of the mixer base. It locks securely on the base and is as powerful as any free-standing blender I have used. Keep in mind that I do have a 1000W model, so your 800W experience may be slightly different.

Clean up is the only more complicated part of the process. There are not so many more parts, but the design makes it trickier to clean properly. With a tower in the middle of the mixing bowl (similar to a tube pan), it just plain takes more attention and time to clean and the angles of the dough hook makes it a bit trickier than the Kitchen Aid. The whisks are no more difficult than any balloon whisk. All this said, I am so satisfied with the machine that I actually enjoy the more complicated clean up as I get to baby it. And as the other reviewer noted, most parts are dishwasher safe.

I will edit this review as I have more information to add.

I have also attached a customer image which shows the blender attached, the dough hook placed in the bowl, and the double whisk attachment for a bit of visual information.

    Enjoy your Bosch! :-)

The BEST on the market - libertybay - Tucson, Arizona
After going through several of the Kitchenaid 600 Professional mixers over the past few years, I finally had enough and returned my last Kitchenaid mixer and bought a Bosch Universal Plus.. It was the best decision I have made. My Kitchenaid motor was getting hot just mixing up ONE loaf of bread, keeping with the 4 minute knead time that Kitchenaid suggests. After getting the Bosch, I was amazed at how effortlessly it mixed up 4 loaves of bread - it was the best experience I have had with a mixer. It is much easier to clean than my Kitchenaid and easier to use. I typically make a minimum of 3 loaves of bread every week, sometimes more, and needed a mixer that could handle that with no problems - my wish was granted. I love all the attachments that are available as well - with the powerful motor, the blender works amazingly and again was easy to clean. I would highly recommend this mixer - you won't be sorry with this purchase!

  • Great Mixer - but possible safety concern! - Paul Tomlinson - CANTON, MI, US
I purchased this mixer for my wife two years ago and all in all she loves the unit. It does handle all of her bread and cookie making needs very well as many have written, but we have just found a possible safety concern.
If you have one of these units please carefully check your power cord (with it unplugged). We have only used this unit a handful of times and always push the cord back into the housing as it was designed to do. A few days ago my pulled the cord out and plugged it in. After noticing that she didn't have as much free cord to move the unit around, she pulled some more cord out and received a shock. Turns out that the cord was somehow able to be pushed beyond the cord storage area internally and into the pulley / belt area where it rubbed through the cord insulation exposing the copper wiring.
Bosch's customer service suggested that they have never heard of such a problem, and that may be the case. However it is hard to believe that we have the only unit that has, or could potentially have this safety concern.
At this point, Bosch wants me to send it in and pay to have it fixed. Not real impressed with their lack of concern or offer to correct the problem. All they would have had to do was offer to replace the cord and I would have been fine with that.

UPDATE: Good news / bad news. Bad news is I received a call back from Bosch(the 800 number in the manual), and they really didn't care about my problem or the concern that it could possibly be a safety issue for others.
Good news, my sister had me contact Shar's in Gilbert Arizona, a dealer that she has purchased Bosch products from in the past. They were very sympathetic to my situation and although they did not have to, they were willing to make the repair without question. I was happy to have them send me a new cord, which they were willing to do, and I'll put it in myself. If you are in the market for a Bosch kitchen appliance or repair, I can't say enough good things about Shar's in Gilbert Arizona. Wonderful people.

Plastic gears - Jim & Jenny - Michigan
We also bought the Sunbeam Mixmaster based on previous experience. It is unfortunate that the new products have sacrificed quality for cost. The drive gears for the beaters are now plastic and do not hold up to moderate load (Marshmallow Creme frosting??!??). I found that it stripped the teeth right off the head of the beater drive sleeve when I investigated. Of course I cannot find the parts to repair.

The wife and I are now going to go for quality instead of this low-cost alternative.

Don't knead bread dough with this mixer - bread montana -
This review is for a Sunbeam 2350 mixer. I used this mixer to knead bread dough, and it failed in less than five minutes. The gears are stripped, and the mixer no longer works for anything. This happened with a single loaf recipe and normal dough consistency, which leaves me wondering why the manufacturer included dough hooks with the mixer. In my opinion, for what this mixer does (or did, when it was working), a hand held mixer would be easier to use, and would take one-fourth the storage room.

Sunbeam is not so sunny! - a reader from - Denton TX
In many years of cooking and baking I'd never owned a stand mixer until last year when I asked for one for Christmas. My husband, the giver, wanted to get the Kitchen Aid but I suggested the less expensive Sunbeam, which I'd heard good things about. At first I thought my problems with it were caused by my inexperience with the stand mixer since I'd used a handmixer so long. But, no, it's the mixer. One aggravation is that ingredients don't get mixed in thoroughly without constantly stopping and mixing by hand. But the mixer's worst fault--and the reason I know it's a dud--is that at times the bowl just stops turning or the mixer itself stops. I have to turn the speed dial back and forth to make it start again and/or I have to spin the bowl by hand. Also, the tilt release button is in an awkward place and requires a serious push to make work. And once the beaters, though firmly seated, simply disengaged and fell into the bowl. Recently, I made meringue for pies with this mixer. It took twice as long as with a handmixer and the meringue was syrupy and did not have the volume I'm used to with a handmixer. And forget mixing bread with it. That was a complete disaster. I finished mixing and kneading the bread by hand.

I thought having a stand mixer would be so great, more efficient, convenient, freeing. But frankly, I hate this thing! I'm beyond disappointed. The shoddiness of this appliance, which was not cheap, is shameful. And from what I've read here, today's Kitchen Aids, though very expensive, may not be much better. Whatever happened to quality products?
