This is a honey if all you want to do is make a simple cake mix. I tried creaming butter and sugar and all it does is sling everything to the sides! Thank goodness I had just bought a Kitchenaid hand mixer, I finished up my cookie dough with that and it handled that with ease! Don't bother with this one, save up for a Kitchenaid stand mixer, that's what I'm going to do!!

I received this mixer as a gift. (If I had a receipt, I'd be demanding a refund from someone!) The problem with mine is one of the beaters falls out during mixing. When it drops from the locked position, there's a god-awful clanking noise because it starts to collide with the other beater in an unintended way. I have to stop, push it back in, and start again. It would happen about every 60 seconds at first, then I tried replacing the beaters by ordering a new (overpriced) pair on the Sunbeam website, but it got worse. Now it happens so frequently, I can't use the mixer at all.
Hamilton Beach constructs the mixer with a rugged die-cast aluminum body for years of heavy-duty use. The head tilts up for easy access to ingredients and attachments, and automatically stops operation in the raised position. A rotary dial controls speed, while separate on and off switches control power—the on button is safely recessed to prevent accidental activation. The motor also features built-in protection against overheating. In addition to a 7-quart stainless-steel bowl, the mixer comes with a spatula, a flat beater, a dough hook, and a balloon whisk. If you need this, you need it. It's good for lamingtons (an Australian classic) where you need a warm bath for the eggs if you're making Genoise cake from scratch and then a hot bath for the icing to keep it runny while you dip. Note that it's specific to 6 quart, bowl-lift mixers. It's very big but it needs to be for a 6 quart bowl.
The weak point is the tabs by which it hooks to the arms of the bowl-lift mechanism so that it goes up and down with the bowl. They're not exactly flimsy but they're very exposed and angular which means it's easy to damage yourself when washing/drying the bowl, and damage the tabs with a drop or heavy knock. In fact the KitchenAid packaging was grossly inadequate - just a cardboard box with no foam - so that the tabs were bent when the bowl arrived and had to be carefully straightened.

jumping, loss pin, and shaking solution - SV - Colorado
I have not purchased my KitchenAid yet but children love the theirs so I am giving a rating for them, knowing they have not and will not do so. I did find on kitchen aids website a number of videos that explain how to eliminate the jumping and shaking people have described in various reviews of KitchenAid models. Making these adjustments will increase your mixers performance. Since the mixers handle such a variety of materials and densities it's necessary to be able to make these adjustments. they also have a video regarding the loose pin problem, which I was concerned about having heard so many complaints of it.
