SUNBEAM 2379 MIXMASTER STAND MIXER 300-WATT 12 SPEED - Ellen M. Johnson - BAILEY, NC USA
I PURCHASED THIS MIXER FOR THE PURPOSE OF USING FOR HEAVY DUTY MIXING JOBS. I MAKE CANDY AS A BUSINESS, AND THIS MIXER DOES NOT STAND UP TO THE TEST. I CAN NOT
EVEN MAKE DIVINITY WITH IT, WHICH IS ONE OF MY BEST SELLERS. THIS CANDY REQUIRES CONSTANT MIXING AT HIGH SPEED FOR APPROXIMATELY 14-16 MINUTES AND THIS MIXER CANNOT HANDLE THE STRESS. IT MAKES LOUD STRAINING NOISES WHEN I TRY TO USE IT. I WISH I HADN'T BOUGHT IT. I NEED SOMETHING MUCH MORE POWERFULL.
Sunbeam Mixer - Mrs. Bertalou Kelley -
When we received this mixer and discovered that it only comes with one mixing bowl, I was quite disappointed. I have this mixer so I bought one for my daughter, this one only comes with one size bowl, you must purchase the smaller bowl separately, it is used quite often in mixing mixtures and quite necessary. I have used sunbeam Mixers for years and love the fact that it is light enough to move from counter to cabinet or pantry to put it away.
for the LOW price, works fine. - Glend Lo - Honolulu, HI
Bought mine at Walmart for the same price. I got what I PAID for.
Every time I mix with this I have to do extra work with a spatula to move the dough around inside mixer for it to mix accordingly. It is very useful for someone that bakes occasionally and for fun. I bake every other day! so this item was not for me. I will invest in getting a Kitchen Aid electronic mixer.
Find something better. - kiwanissandy - Heart of Ohio
I have had this set for over a year now and couldn't be more unhappy with it. The mixer does not reach the bottom of the glass bowl so regardless you still have to mix by hand to get all the flour and other ingredients off the bottom of the bowl. The mixer gets bogged down easily and between speeds of 3 and 4 it just stops. There's apparently a short between those speeds but if you giggle the switch it will work again.
The bowl is extremely heavy glass so once you've mixed your ingredients it's very difficult to man-handle the bowl to tilt it to get the ingredients poured in your pans. The beaters come out while mixing. I've pushed and pushed them in but once you lift the head the beaters often stay in the bowl. Not every time but enough that it's aggravating to have to dig your beaters out of wet cake mix.
I don't have a recommendation for something better. I'll keep using this one because I just can't afford another one. But I do recommend you pass on this one and find better luck with another brand.
Not for heavy duty mixing! - M. Ray -
We used to have kitchen Aid mixers. They're junk. I ended up replacing the transmission in one of them myself only to have it go out again. So, after much review, and a belief that Viking was a high end product we bought the 1000 watt mixer. It works fine for light loads, but at the first attempt to knead wheat bread dough, a fairly hefty mix, a few months after buying it, it started make gear grinding noises and slipping. When I called the factory to see if they would "stand behind" their product and replace the transmission, I was told that "no it would cost me 0.00 just for the part". Very disappointing. It still works for light loads, but I am going to try the Electrolux and hope for better results.
Not Worth the Price - Mark D Burgh - Fort Smith, AR United States
I paid a lot of money for this Viking Mixer when my Kitchen Aid died of plastic gearing, but all I've had is grief and frustration. Not only did it fail completely, but it cost me time & effort for repair. Don't buy this mixer. Better to mix by hand than to spent this amount of money for something that's poor design never worked.
Perhaps its better to think of the Kitchenaid as only renting a mixer for a few years.
hate it - E. Pollack - NY, USA
We bought this expensive mixer because we thought Viking was a good high-end company, but I have been nothing but angry and disappointed with it. The blades do not reach the bottom of the bowl, leaving a large portion unmixed, and it is hard to get the blades to attach- sometimes they stick and sometimes they don't, and sometimes they fall off in the middle of mixing. In short, it is a hassle.
Took it Back! - Divot Diva - Napa Valley CA
The lowest speed does not allow for a smooth start and is entirely too fast. Because the beaters sit high in the bowl I had a hard time just creaming eggs, sugar and butter. Detaching the beaters to use without the stand was not easy. In manufacturing they used some type of machine oil that exudes an obnoxious odor. After one week the odor was just as strong and permeated my entire kitchen. In comparison to the 'old style' Hamilton Beach mixers, the new stand mixers all have a lot to be desired. Maybe the new Cuisinart stand mixer is the way to go?
LUV IT ! - Real -
I recently used it for mixing flour, works very well!
But not very works for melting butter
however, highly recommended it

Raving over it Still! - Susan R. Swatsworth -
The Kitchen Aid Classic Plus Stand Mixer has been a delight to use. I used it the 1st week I got it unlike many pieces of electronics sitting around in my kitchen. My Mixer sits out ready for action despite the small amount of counter space that I have. It works wonderfully, and I look forward to making cookies with it soon.
I did miss the handle on the side after using an old industrial Kitchen Aid mixer that was donated to the local homeless shelter I volunteered at. It had the handle on it so I noted that, but the bottom of the bowl fits perfectly into my grip so it works as a handle as well. By the way they really stand up to the test of time by the old one. :-)
Sincerely,
Susan S.
More of a pain than it should be for over 0 - Karin Jones -
I've had this model for several years and had I not received it as a gift, I would have returned it right away. On the plus side, it does mix heavy doughs well.....although the entire machine will rock back and forth while doing so. You would think that as heavy as the top of the machine is, they would weight the bottom to keep it from being so top-heavy. It already weighs as much as my microwave... what's a couple more pounds?
Another big issue I have is that it doesn't have a swing away bowl so that you can pour ingredients into the bowl easily while mixing. Unless you pony up another for the plastic spatter cover (which you *will* need) you will not only be covered in flour but you'll turn yourself upside down trying to get the flour into the bowl without it ending up all over the counter.
After years of really trying to like the KitchenAid, I'm tired of working around it's shortcomings. I'll be getting grandma's mixer out of storage and putting the KitchenAid on eBay.
It Doesn't Last - Dr. Norma J. Starr - McLean VA USA
I bought the Viking 1000 watt 7 quart mixer about one and one-half years ago. I had used several Kitchenaid mixers over the past 29 years of marriage, but given that I do lots of bread baking I needed a heavier duty mixer. At first I was extremely happy with the Viking. However, today it died. I was doing an 11 cup bread dough recipe as I do every week. I did everything I usually do, but midway through the kneading it died. I called Viking and got no help. I will never buy another Viking product again. After spending 0 I expect a product to last longer. I don't know what mixer I will purchase in the future. I may have to resort to the Hobart, because no other mixer holds up.
Making Bread - Forget about it !!! - John C. Brown MD - Miami, Florida USA
The machine died after 3 months. I am just starting to bake and was enjoying it until I taxed the Viking with bread making - not multiple loaves but just one at a time. It died very silently - no smoke or ozone/burnt motor odor - just quietly died while making cream icing with cream cheese and cream. I hit the reverse and it just started to make a gurgling noise and then was no more.
I called the company - not really the company but a repair facility in Detroit and was told the best they could do was to mail me a FedEx slip and I was responsible for boxing the unit and they would repair it.
When I suggested that they send me a box or another motor unit (I would send the current unit back) I was informed that this was not company policy. When I attempted to call Viking and when I asked to speak to corporate customer service I was directed back to the repair facility in Detroit - this happened over and over.
I mentioned that I bought the unit retail on the website they still insisted that they couldn't help me.
Cooks illustrated rated the Kitchen Aid Professional 600 as their number one choice - the Viking did not even make it into the first three best choices - I strongly agree. The Viking is more expensive and the service is lacking. And more importantly the maching is inferior.
I am considering the Hobart or the Kitchen Aid and I will keep the Viking as backup. When you buy a mixer get it from a department store that offers guarantees that include replacement units. I am going to the Sears website now.
Big Disappointment! - R. Crowley -
I received the Viking for Christmas and am a very experienced baker. I did thorough research on mixers and basically wanted a more heavy-duty mixer to do multiple cookie batches. I have to say from the first time I used it, it had the 'motor smell', skipped across the counter, and makes alot of noise from parts banging back and forth. These problems occur no matter what how large or small the recipes are. Yikes what an expensive mistake!!! I can't caution people enough -- do not buy this mixer!! I've had Kitchen Aids for years and NEVER had problems like this -- the Viking is an INFERIOR product and I wish I never bought it!

This was a Christmas gift for my daughter. The bowl was broken, but I contacted the company & they responded in a timely fashion. The replacement arrived today. I appreciate their attention to my problem, but can't review the product because she hasn't used it yet.
Kalorik 200-Watt 5-Speed Stand Mixer, White - Rieth Nel - Portland, Oregon United States
I was at first disappointed when I took it out, since it was not completely clean, and there was some marks on the mixer that looked like some kind of glue, or whatever it was. Some of the plastic was really cheap and discolored. Then I saw that it was made in China, and I understood - can't expect too much then, I guess.
At least it works.
The BEST on the market - libertybay - Tucson, Arizona
After going through several of the Kitchenaid 600 Professional mixers over the past few years, I finally had enough and returned my last Kitchenaid mixer and bought a Bosch Universal Plus.. It was the best decision I have made. My Kitchenaid motor was getting hot just mixing up ONE loaf of bread, keeping with the 4 minute knead time that Kitchenaid suggests. After getting the Bosch, I was amazed at how effortlessly it mixed up 4 loaves of bread - it was the best experience I have had with a mixer. It is much easier to clean than my Kitchenaid and easier to use. I typically make a minimum of 3 loaves of bread every week, sometimes more, and needed a mixer that could handle that with no problems - my wish was granted. I love all the attachments that are available as well - with the powerful motor, the blender works amazingly and again was easy to clean. I would highly recommend this mixer - you won't be sorry with this purchase!
Great Mixer - but possible safety concern! - Paul Tomlinson - CANTON, MI, US
I purchased this mixer for my wife two years ago and all in all she loves the unit. It does handle all of her bread and cookie making needs very well as many have written, but we have just found a possible safety concern.
If you have one of these units please carefully check your power cord (with it unplugged). We have only used this unit a handful of times and always push the cord back into the housing as it was designed to do. A few days ago my pulled the cord out and plugged it in. After noticing that she didn't have as much free cord to move the unit around, she pulled some more cord out and received a shock. Turns out that the cord was somehow able to be pushed beyond the cord storage area internally and into the pulley / belt area where it rubbed through the cord insulation exposing the copper wiring.
Bosch's customer service suggested that they have never heard of such a problem, and that may be the case. However it is hard to believe that we have the only unit that has, or could potentially have this safety concern.
At this point, Bosch wants me to send it in and pay to have it fixed. Not real impressed with their lack of concern or offer to correct the problem. All they would have had to do was offer to replace the cord and I would have been fine with that.
UPDATE: Good news / bad news. Bad news is I received a call back from Bosch(the 800 number in the manual), and they really didn't care about my problem or the concern that it could possibly be a safety issue for others.
Good news, my sister had me contact Shar's in Gilbert Arizona, a dealer that she has purchased Bosch products from in the past. They were very sympathetic to my situation and although they did not have to, they were willing to make the repair without question. I was happy to have them send me a new cord, which they were willing to do, and I'll put it in myself. If you are in the market for a Bosch kitchen appliance or repair, I can't say enough good things about Shar's in Gilbert Arizona. Wonderful people.
really great stuff - Wang Weijia -
its just a little bit expensive, but i believe the price has its own reason: long-lasting quality.
With a choice of ten speeds and three attachments--flat beater, spiral dough hook, and stainless-steel wire whip--the mixer handles everything from egg whites to meat loaf to pizza dough. Rather than rotating the bowl, KitchenAid stand mixers feature a fixed bowl with a unique mixing action: the beater spins clockwise as the shaft spins counter-clockwise, thus projecting the beater to 67 different points inside the 5-quart stainless-steel bowl. In deference to its power, the Soft-Start feature prevents splashing and flour clouds by gearing up to each speed gradually; then the electronic speed sensor kicks in to maintain a constant speed even when mixing the thickest batter. The bowl features a handle as well as two pins that hook into the lifting mechanism, which consists of a solid metal arm the same color as the mixer and a stainless-steel lever. A hinged attachment hub makes changing attachments easy. For safety, the mixer shuts down if an object obstructs the mixing process or if overloading occurs. The bowl, beater, and dough hook are dishwasher-safe. Assembled in Ohio, the mixer measures 16-1/2 by 12 by 14 inches and is backed by a hassle-free, one-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

I Love My KitchenAid Professional 5 Plus! - Martin D. Glynn -
I bought this mixer for my wife for Christmas because she said she had always wanted one, and she reports that, "It has exceeded my expectations, and then some!" She highly recommends it, and confirms that you'll be very pleased with your purchase if you decide to acquire one.
Great stand mixer - KCgal -
I love the look, feel and power in this mixer. I previously owned a KitchenAid mixer. It was over 35 years old and I dreaded giving it up - but we updated our kitchen to stainless steel and the ivory colored KitchenAid just didn't fit. I planned on buying a new stainless KitchenAid but found out that the newer versions had plastic parts that easily failed. I have only used this Cuisinart to make a large batch of cookies but it did a great job! I can't wait to try making some bread.
Mixer worked for 7 months only - Aleyandra -
I bought a mixer in Nov. 2009 and 2 months ago the motor stopped working and smoke came out. I hate the fact that just because I live ou side of the US, I can not make use of a 2 year warranty. I left my mixer at an authorized shop and I am still waiting for them to get parts for the motor, It's been 2 MONTHS WOW!

Truly awesome mixer, the order was smooth and the product shipped quickly. I was very happy.
Only good for mixing a cake! - David R. George - Perry, Georgia United States
This is a honey if all you want to do is make a simple cake mix. I tried creaming butter and sugar and all it does is sling everything to the sides! Thank goodness I had just bought a Kitchenaid hand mixer, I finished up my cookie dough with that and it handled that with ease! Don't bother with this one, save up for a Kitchenaid stand mixer, that's what I'm going to do!!
Disappointed. :( - Sara Casey - Michigan
I received this mixer as a gift. (If I had a receipt, I'd be demanding a refund from someone!) The problem with mine is one of the beaters falls out during mixing. When it drops from the locked position, there's a god-awful clanking noise because it starts to collide with the other beater in an unintended way. I have to stop, push it back in, and start again. It would happen about every 60 seconds at first, then I tried replacing the beaters by ordering a new (overpriced) pair on the Sunbeam website, but it got worse. Now it happens so frequently, I can't use the mixer at all.

It took me a while to save for this but now that I have my credit cards paid off, I wanted to splurge. I have made some of the ones that come with the appliance, and some of the ones from opra's tv show, and they came out just perfect and delicious. Please if you don't have one of these, you need to get one, you'll be amazed at the quality of your baking with this appliance. I never thought I could make any cookies completely from scratch, now I will never go back to store bought cookies when I can make them my own and know exactly what went in them. No preservatives or additives and just delicious. :) I used to buy store bought cookies and ready to bake packages for cookies and cakes, etc. I started watching oprah last year . She always shows nice productcs and most of the time ask her guest if they have one and how fabulous it is, and if they don't have one that they should really get one. So, I finally decided to take opra's word and went and got the red colored one. I just love it. So far the cookies I have made with it are so easy to make.
